Hero Mascot – Wetaskiwin Hospital Foundation

A friend of mine who works with the Wetaskiwin Hospital Foundation reached out to see if I could help turn their mascot into something more usable for an upcoming summer event in 2025. They already had a mascot design from another designer, but only as a single flat image. What they needed was range—poses, personality, and flexibility.

I pitched the idea of creating a full set of mascot poses that could be reused across print, web, and even animation someday. Things like holding signs, action stances, and fun heroic moments—strong poses that people would actually want to use.

I started by taking the original mascot into Procreate and sketching out a bunch of pose ideas. They were especially into the big hero energy—lifting boulders, flying through the air, and bold, confident stances. After sending the sketches over, I received feedback, new pose requests, and notes on their favorites.

From there, I rebuilt the mascot and all of the selected poses as clean vectors in Illustrator. I also had enough time to create a few extra bonus poses at no extra charge, just to give them a bit more flexibility for future use. The finished set gave them a reusable toolkit they could drop into posters, web graphics, and event materials whenever needed. They loved the results and have been using the mascot across their promotions since.

And yes… it still feels like it should be animated one day.
